UPDATE

ARL Group is now NATA accredited to report PFOS to meet 99% Marine / Freshwater Species Protection Guidelines.

Being the only commercial Laboratory in Western Australia performing a full suite of PFAS analysis in soil and water, we now can reach all the current required guideline levels in-house.

The Ultra-Trace methodology overcomes the challenges around managing background levels of PFOS in the lab environment and with a brand new state of the art instrument, this also enables faster throughput of samples.

All the team members who designed and validated the method are based onsite at our Welshpool Laboratory, so they also are the ones analysing and reporting the samples.

 

BACKGROUND

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are an emerging contaminant of concern. PFAS are a family of manufactured chemicals which do not naturally occur in the environment. This group of compounds is considered to have a high environmental impact as they are persistent chemicals and bio-accumulate.

PFAS are widely used in a range of industrial applications, such as fire-fighting foams (AFFF), textiles, preservatives, food packaging, carpet-care treatments, floor wax and polish as well as hydraulic oil for airplanes.

The sample is analysed by a measured volume of water/or mass of soil/solid being extracted and concentrated by Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) and is then analysed by LCMS using isotopically labelled internal standards.
